5 Ways to Burn the Clock While Your Volkswagen Electric Car Recharges

By now, you probably know some of the major benefits of switching over to a Volkswagen electric car.

The main perk of any new electric car on the market is never having to pay for gas again. Take a moment and figure out how much the pump is costing you per year. That alone makes switching over worth some serious consideration, especially with gas prices being what they are right now.

Another win for new electric cars is that their driving range is far better than what they used to be five years ago. For instance, the Volkswagen ID.4 gets a driving range of up to 260 miles on a single charge. That is more than enough to get you through your weekly commuting or a weekend getaway out of town.

However, there’s one big hold-up for many consumers when it comes to making the switch over to an EV vehicle – charging times. In exchange for saving all that money at the pump you’ll have to spend a little time reconfiguring your schedule. Not to worry though. We’re here to walk you through how to do it.

Volkswagen Electric Cars and Charging Times

Just like your favorite smartphone device, new electric cars require being hooked up to a charging port from time to time. That can be difficult for a person who has grown up with a gas-up-and-go type of vehicle their entire life.

However, adjusting to the life of an electric vehicle owner isn’t as tough as it seems. Much like driving range, charging station technology has also drastically improved over the years. When discussing EV chargers, the two main variables are charger type and charging time.

With a 9.6kW charger, you’ll be able to get about 10 – 15 miles after a 30-minute charge. The more powerful 25kW charger will provide 30 – 50 miles after a 30-minute charge. Finally, with a DC Fast Charger, you’ll get about 180 miles after a 30-minute charge.

As you can see, you can rack up a lot of miles in a short amount of time. The challenge is how do you kill the clock while you’re waiting for your Volkswagen electric car to recharge. Fortunately, we have some ideas.

#1 – Knock Out an Appointment

We’ve all got those little 30-minute appointments that we need to attend every now and again. Maybe it’s a haircut, a trip to the vet, or you need to get your nails done. Whatever the case may be, this is a perfect opportunity to hook up your new electric car to the charger to give it some juice.

#2 – Charge Up While You Tone Up

Most medical experts agree that you should get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity per day. Yet again, this is another great opportunity for you to charge up your car. Many major gym chains feature charging ports in their parking lots. After you’re done breaking a sweat, you’ll come out to a fully charged battery.

#3 – Grocery Shopping

Although it may be tempting to order your groceries online and have them delivered, why not take your weekly grocery shopping as an opportunity to charge up your car? Virtually every major grocery store chain, Walmart, and Target feature charging ports for EV vehicles on the lot.

#4 – Enjoy an Episode of Your Favorite TV Show

You can’t drive your car while it’s charging, but you can certainly still use your phone while you wait. If you’re parked at a charging port with time to kill, take this as your opportunity to fire up Hulu, Netflix, or other streaming service. One episode of your favorite show is all it should take for you to replenish your battery and get back on the road.

#5 – Enjoy Some “Me Time”

Have a totally clear schedule? Feel free to take the day to shop, grab a coffee, or browse your favorite bookstore. While you’re out enjoying the town, you can hook up your electric vehicle to the closest charging port.
