The Next Gen of Volkswagen Electric Car

With the massive success of the Volkswagen ID.4, the bar of what an electric vehicle should be was elevated another few notches. For those of you just tuning in, the Volkswagen ID.4 was named the winner of the 2021 World Car of the Year Award. Much of that has to do with its future-forward design, superior handling, and the fact that it can get up to 260 miles on a single charge. It’s easily one our biggest success stories to date, and the sales reflect that. The Volkswagen ID.4 is so popular that they’re selling out before they even reach our dealership.

So, what’s next for VW is the realm of new electric cars?

As it turns out, the next new electric car from VW won’t be a car at all. It’ll be a van. We are, of course, referring to the VW ID. Buzz, a former concept vehicle that will officially be going into production in 2022. It is expected to be the perfect blend of old-time nostalgia and futuristic design and technology. Let’s get to know a little more about the VW ID. Buzz, coming soon to our very own VW Clear Lake dealership.

A Blast from the Past, Made for the Future

Devotees of the illustrious line-up of VW vehicles may spot some similarities between the VW ID. Buzz and the VW Type 2 Microbus (aka the VW Bus) from the 1970’s. It’s been a long time since VW has thrown their hat into the family van space, but the ID. Buzz makes the statement that vans will be the next big thing in automobiles with its modernized design elements and big-time battery mileage. No bus in history has ever been this eco-friendly.

Although the VW ID. Buzz isn’t an SUV, it’ll carry over many of the top features and performance aspects that put the Volkswagen ID.4 at the top of the EV heap above its electric competitors.

3 Things to Expect Out of the Brand-New VW ID. Buzz

There’s so much that is subject to change when a concept vehicle is initially rolled out. The VW ID. Buzz was originally teased five years ago at the Detroit Auto Show. Since then, the ID. Buzz has become an entirely different vehicle in terms of design, performance, and safety and convenience features. However, based on what we know so far, here are the three big things that American consumers can expect from the ID. Buzz when it’s finally released.

  1. Improved single-charge distance: One of the huge selling points of the Volkswagen ID.4 is that it can get up to 260 miles on a single charge. That means it’s more than up to the challenge of getting you through your week’s-worth of daily commutes or your family’s upcoming cross-country trip. People should expect even more out of the VW ID. Buzz as it has long been speculated to use a much larger battery pack.
  2. The ID. Buzz will be offered in two models: We’ve seen a lot of preliminary reporting for both the European and American versions of the ID. Buzz. On the American side of things, the specs clearly indicate that we should expect the ID. Buzz to be offered with two different drivetrains. The base model will be rear-wheel drive and offer 200 horsepower; the upgraded version will be all-wheel drive with dual motors, yielding an estimated 300 horsepower.
  3. Expect to See the VW ID. Buzz at Volkswagen Clear Lake in 2023: Now, to the most important part…when is the VW ID. Buzz actually arriving stateside so people can finally test drive it? According to Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, the official unveiling of the ID. Buzz will be on March 9th, 2022. The production version will be available to U.S. consumers in 2023. Trust us…it’ll be worth the wait.
